HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Superstar Liza Minnelli is coming to Huntington to open the 74th season of The Marshall Artists Series.

Acts and Broadway shows like The Doobie Brothers, “Stomp” and “The Color Purple” are just some of the entertainment that will fill out the season.

Events will be at the Keith Albee Performing Arts Center, Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center and the Big Sandy Superstore Arena with Minnelli performing at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12. But tickets will go on sale much sooner than that.

Angela Jones, director of marketing and external affairs for the Marshall Artists Series, said season tickets will be on sale through Thursday.

The prices for season tickets range from as high as $578 and go as low as $75, depending on the types of events a person wants to see and the different seating choices. Individual event tickets will go on sale on Aug. 16.

Jones said she thinks the Marshall Artists Series has always had a good lineup and this year will not disappoint.

“We have some really great shows people are excited to see,” Jones said. “We have a diverse and varied series and something that will appeal to everyone.”

As for what she thinks will draw the biggest crowd this season, Jones said she has a hard time guessing.

“I have no idea,” Jones said. “It’s a good indication to judge by what we get calls for. So far it’s been pretty even. We’ve had phone calls about every one of our shows. That’s a good sign.”

Jones said that, for people who love comedy, Daniel Tosh will be at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena on Oct. 19.

She said another treat for the season is “The Color Purple,” which has never been to Huntington before.

While it is possible to wait until the day of the event to purchase tickets, Jones recommends getting the tickets as soon as possible to ensure getting a seat. All seating, other than for Daniel Tosh, will be reserved.

Ticket information can be obtained by calling (304) 696-3326.
