They started out as grade school friends, and Kayla Mullins, now 23, and Ashley Kellogg, now 22, are able to say they are business partners.

The two are co-owners of A New You Salon and Spa, 113 S. Third St., in Ironton. The grand opening begins at 1 p.m. Saturday with no set end time.

There will be drawings for free services and those who schedule an appointment that day will receive 20 percent off their bill when they come in for their appointment.

Mullins and Kellogg would also like for people to come in and take a look at the building. Mullins said the building is old, but the inside has been remodeled, making it new while still keeping some of the original charm.

Mullins graduated from Ashland Community and Technical College and Kellogg graduated from Collins Career Center. Both have worked together previously and are excited to begin this new venture.

“We mainly just knew this was what we wanted to do before we graduated school,” Mullins said.

With both from Ironton and still living in Ironton, it only made sense to have their business here as well, they said.

The hours, beginning Monday, will be Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The salon will be closed on Sundays and Wednesdays. Walk-ins are welcome during those hours, and appointments can be scheduled outside of normal business hours.

Mullins said the salon offers all hair and nail services, including cuts and coloring, acrylic nails, manicures and pedicures. She said they also offer waxing, facials, microdermabrasion, Minx nails and Keratin hair treatments.

Mullins explained Minx nails as an alternative to nail polish, lasting from four to six weeks and offering more options, with more than 1,000 designs.

She said Keratin hair treatments condition and straighten hair and last from three to five months. She said this is different from a relaxer in that it doesn’t contain chemicals.

The salon will also sell products by Paul Mitchell, Redken and OPI.

Both owners say they are very excited about the grand opening.

“I’m extremely excited,” Kellogg said. “ It’s a new experience.”
