Ironton City Council to consider bids for construction materials, concrete

At its next scheduled meeting, the Ironton City Council will consider an ordinance that would allow the city to award bids for construction materials and concrete for the year.

The council will hear the third reading of the ordinance at tonight’s meeting, according to the agenda prepared for the meeting.

The ordinance calls for Mayor Rich Blankenship to award bids to Mountain Materials for limestone and rip rap stone and to Pickett Concrete for Calcium Chloride Admixture and concrete.

The city also put out to bid other materials including gravel and asphaltic concrete, but no bids were placed. Blankenship said for the purchase of those materials, the city will check with several companies and decide which company to purchase from based on prices.

Council will also hear the second reading of an ordinance that would allow the mayor to award bids for the purchase of chemicals for the year. The ordinance calls for the mayor to award bids in the following amounts to the following companies:

C.I. Thornburg for liquid chlorine at $.46 per pound, Sal Chemical for hydrofluosilicic acid at $.374 per pound, Usalco for liquid alumn sulfate at $.2088 per pound, Brentagg for sodium hydroxide for $0.156 per pound, Bonded for powdered activated carbon at $.72 per pound, Bonded for potassium permanganate at $3.06 per pound, Applied Specialties for polymer at $.613 per pound, Brentagg for hydrated lime at $.158 per pound, and Bonded Chemicals for sodium bisulfate at $.144 per pound.

The following items are also on the agenda for tonight’s meeting of the Ironton City Council:

• The first reading of an ordinance amending the city’s annual operating budget for the fiscal year 2010.

• The second reading of an ordinance authorizing the mayor purchase new dumpsters for the city.

• A resolution authorizing transfers and indirect cost reimbursements as adopted by the 2011 annual budget appropriation ordinance.

• A resolution authorizing the transfer of municipal court probation funds to the general fund for expenses incurred on behalf of the community corrections program.

• A resolution authorizing Finance Director Kristen Martin to enter into a contract with City National Bank for services to utilize the Ohio Business Gateway automated clearing house functions.

• A resolution authorizing participation in the Ohio Department of Transportation cooperative purchasing program.

The regularly scheduled Ironton City Council meeting will be at 6 p.m. tonight in the council chambers of the Ironton City Center.
