They’re back.

The poor shooting woes for the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers returned Monday in a 43-30 loss to the Wheelersburg Lady Pirates.

Ironton’s shooting had picked up in recent weeks, but the Lady Tigers were just 12 of 40 from the field and only 4 of 14 at the foul line this time.

“Nothing was falling. It was one of those nights,” said Ironton coach Doug Graham. “Wheelersburg’s an athletic team, they’re well-coached and the Schmidt girl is a good shooter. You can’ afford to have an off-night against them.”

Eric Schmidt scored 21 points for the Lady Pirates (12-7) to lead all scorers.

Emily Davis had 8 points, Karlee McMackin and Lexy Washington 7 each and Ariel Schweickart 6 for Ironton (5-14).

Wheelersburg led by as many as 10 points in the first quarter before Schweickart’s layup made it 14-6.

Fay Proehl’s layup put the Lady Pirates up 21-12 in the second quarter but McMackin converted a 3-point play and it was 23-15 t the half.

Ironton went on a 9-0 run to start the second half — six by Davis — and McMackin’s baseline shot at the 3:21 mark gave the Lady Tigers their only lead at 24-23.

Schmidt hit a 3-pointer as Wheelersburg regained the lead and it was 30-24 at the end of the quarter.

Wheelersburg scored the last 7 points of the third quarter and the first 7 of the fourth quarter to go up 37-24.

Ironton hosts Huntington on Thursday in the final regular season game.
