RACELAND, Ky. — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets did about everything they could except win.

The Lady Hornets got some clutch performances and played strong defense before losing 50-47 in overtime to the Raceland Lady Rams on Wednesday in their final game of the season.

With starter Jacy Jones out with an injury and starting center Darrien Hankins still suffering from the flu, the Lady Hornets still had a chance to upset the Lady Rams.

“Ashley Adkins is 5-6 and she did a nice job on their big girl,” said Coal Grove coach Rick Roach.

“Deanna Bentley did a good job of handling the ball and Amanda Collins had a great game. She’s a senior and she went out on top with a great performance.”

Adkins scored a game-high 21 points while Collins scored a career-high 10 points for the Lady Hornets (10-11).

Taylor Lacks had 20 points and Brooke Gee 12 to lead the Lady Rams (19-9).

Raceland took a 14-5 first quarter lead but the Lady Hornets recovered and got within 22-17 at the half.

Adkins hit three 3-pointers in the third quarter as Coal Grove rallied to take a 32-30 lead.

Raceland came back to take a 45-42 lead but freshman Leah Crum drained a trey at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.

But with Adkins and Collins on the bench after fouling out, Raceland outscored Coal Grove 5-2 in overtime to win.
