PORTSMOUTH — The westbound lanes of U.S. Route 52 in Scioto County have been closed due to damage incurred at the State Route 852 overpass.

Both lanes of the route have been closed where S.R. 852 (Carl Perkins Bridge traffic) crosses the route in the West Portsmouth area; the closure is due to damage to the bridge’s structural I-beams.

The westbound lanes will remain closed while inspectors from the Ohio Department of Transportation investigate the structure and determine repairs that need to be made. Although State Route 852 remains open, its closure may become necessary depending upon the severity of the damage to the bridge.
