CANNONSBURG, Ky. — If there is such a thing as “hitting shoes,” the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers had on their high-tops at the Boyd County Classic.

Ironton collected 10 hits in a 12-9 nine-inning loss to the Russell Lady Red Devils on Friday and came back to get 11 more hits in a 9-2 win over the Madison Central Lady Indians.

“We really hit the ball well this weekend against both teams. Our defense let down a little big against Russell, but it was right back at it against Madison Central,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.

Ironton had four errors in the loss to Russell and only one against Madison Central.

Emily Davis was 2-4 and Laken White and Meghan Taylor 2-5 to lead Ironton (12-6) against Russell.

Hope Parsley was 3-5 and Arden Gross and Molly Baldridge 2-5 for Russell (11-8).

“I was really proud of the girls for battling back into the game against Russell,” said coach Fields.

“It was unfortunate that we were called for leaving the bag early on a tag in the eighth inning against Russell or we would have won the game.”

The Lady Tigers bounced back on Saturday as White went 2-2 and Davis and Rebekkah Potter were 2-4. Potter also had a triple and Karlee McMackin doubled.

Erin Wetzel gave up six hits, struck out three and walked three in getting the win.

Morgan Winkler and Carlee Carroll were 2-3 for Madison (9-9).

Games had a one-hour, 25-minute time limit.

The Lady Tigers host Fairview, Ky., at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
