Ironton Little League

plans final registration

The Ironton Little League will conduct its final registrations from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Ironton City Center.

Youths ages 4-16 may register. A parent or legal guardian must be present and supply a copy of birth certificate and three proofs of residency.

Also, anyone interested in being a coach or manager should apply at this time.

Tryouts will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, at the Ironton Middle School.

 

Lady Vikings’ softball

to hold rummage sale

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings’ softball team will conduct their sixth annual rummage sale on Saturday, March 2, in the high school gym.

The rummage sale will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Anyone who wants to donate items should bring them to the school from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, March 1, or contact coach Odie Estep for pickup.

South Point Little League

schedules registrations

The South Point Little League will conduct registration for baseball, softball and tee-ball. Anyone interested in coaching is also asked to register.

All registrations will be from 6-8 p.m. Here are the dates and locations:

Feb. 12: South Point High School new gym; Feb. 18 Casa Grande Restaurant; Feb. 21 Giovanni’s Pizza.

 

Chesapeake Little League

plans registration

The Chesapeake Little League will conduct registrations for baseball and softball from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday at the Chesapeake Community Center.

Registrations are open to youths ages 4-12.

 

McCallister Scouting

to conduct combines

The McCallister Scouting Report will be directing three separate MSROHHIO Developmental football combines during the month of March.

These combines are endorsed by the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association.

Combines will be held at the Fieldhouse in Zanesville on March 3, at the Field Sports Arena in Monroe on March 17, and at Super Kick near Columbus on March 24. Registration for all combines is from 10:30-11:45. The combines begin at noon.

Any high school football player in the Classes of 2014, 2015 or 2016 is eligible to participate.

Players will be tested in the 40-yard dash, the vertical jump, the broad jump, the L-cone, the pro-shuttle, and the power ball throw.

Carpenter exhibit

honors black history

ASHLAND, Ky. — The Highland Museum and Discovery Center will offer an exhibit in February paying tribute to African-American sports memorabilia.

John Carpenter — who owns the world’s largest private sports memorabilia collection — will display sports items featuring Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and may more great athletes in all major sports.

Also on display will be items of Clinton Thomas who is from Greenup County. Clinton had an amazing career and played in the first African American World Series.

Items included in the exhibit will range from jerseys, autographed pictures, books and other unique memorabilia.

Carpenter’s collection is recognized by Ripley’s “Believe It Or Not” as the largest sports collection in the world. He has been interviewed by ESPN, has had his own bobblehead doll, been featured on the cover of the “Wheaties” cereal box, and will be interviewed on Kentucky Educational Television (KET) at 8 p.m. Feb. 16-17.
