Pointers win pair of soccer games; Lady Dragons top CG

SOUTH POINT — Whether part-time or fulltime, the South Point Pointers can still find a way to win.

The Pointers beat the West Carter Comets 3-1 in a game called after 48 minutes due to the weather, then came back with a 6-0 shutout of the Chesapeake Panthers in a pair of soccer games.

Gage Stevens had a goal and an assist, Ryan Khounlavong a goal and Alex Whitt two assists in the win over West Carter. Goalie Brady Rickard had five saves.

Five different players scored goals in the win over Chesapeake.

Mark Harris had two unassisted goals, Trey Kearns, Brady Sloan and Jeremiah Kipp had unassisted goals, and Whitt scored a goal with an assist from Jake Helton.

Rickard had three saves for the Pointers who also have four corner kicks. Goalie Jacob Kitchen had 11 saves for the Panthers who had just two corner kicks.

South Point (3-0) plays at Ohio Valley Christian at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Lady Dragons Top CG

COAL GROVE — The Fairland Lady Dragons opened Ohio Valley Conference play with a volleyball win over the defending champion Coal Grove Lady Hornets.

The Lady Dragons won in four sets, 25-9, 25-13, 19-25 and 25-23.

Mackenzie Riley scored 14 points and Kelsey Riley had 11 points to lead Fairland. Brooke Blakeman had 8 points for Coal Grove.

In the reserve match, Fairland won in straight sets 25-5, 25-19 as Carolyn Swolski scored 20 points.

The Lady Dragons (2-0) play at Rock Hill Thursday in an OVC match.
