Boggs, Pointers blank Hornets

SOUTH POINT — Brandon Boggs must like to pitch against the Coal Grove Hornets.

Boggs threw a five-inning perfect game in the first meeting. On Thursday, Boggs pitched a five-inning two-hitter as the South Point Pointers blanked the Hornets 10-0 in five innings.

Boggs struck out seven and did not issue a walk as he faced just 16 batters.

South Point is now 16-2 overall and 9-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Mason Nance and Conor Markins were 1-2 for Coal Grove (11-7, 5-5).

South Point took a 1-0 lead in the first when Trey Kearns was hit by a pitch, Alex Whitt singled and Boggs hit into a fielder’s choice as the run scored.

Two more runs scored in the second. Brandon Jones was hit by a pitch, Tyler Branch singled and both scored when Beau Taylor reached on an error.

Whitt singled, Boggs walked and Chris Woodard had a two-run double in the third and it was 5-0.

The lead went to 7-0 in the fourth when Kearns singled, Whitt walked and Boggs had a two-run double.

The Pointers ended the game early with three runs in the fifth.

Christian Pritchard singled, Taylor was hit by a pitch and Kearns had an RBI single. Jones reached on an error as two runs scored.

South Point had nine hits with Kearns and Whitt going 2-3 and Woodard 2-4. Boggs had three runs batted in.
