A Veterans Day service will be held at Soldier’s Plot in Woodland Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
“We always have it on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month,” Louie Sheridan, of VFW Post 8850, said. “It will just be a small ceremony, but it’s something that is very important for the veterans.”
Sheridan has been a member of the Honor Guard for more than 10 years and has helped coordinate the event for the past five or six years, he said.
The ceremony will feature local student, Demi Sands, performing the National Anthem as well as another patriotic song, pastor Chad Pemberton leading in prayer and member of the post, Rodney McFarland, as the guest speaker.
“Memorial Day is always set aside for our fallen veterans,” Sheridan said. “But we like to do something for Veterans Day to honor those veterans that served and came back. Sometimes they just need to be thanked for their service.”
The ceremony will consist of the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem, prayer, another patriotic song, the guest speaker and end with remembering those veterans who have died since last Veterans Day.
It is open to the public.
