PROCTORVILLE — An open house for Relay for Life in Lawrence County will be 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at of Ohio University Southern Proctorville Center.

“We are inviting all teams, community and businesses to stop in to enjoy light snacks and beverages, pick up supplies for teams ready to fundraise for 2015 and give out information for anyone interested in forming a team, being a sponsor or donating a service or product,” LaChona Ferguson, Relay for Life specialist in the East Central Division of the American Cancer Society, said.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Relay for Life, a worldwide movement that stands up to cancer by celebrating those who have battled the disease, lost loved ones and taking action.

“With 2015 being the 30-year anniversary of Relay for Life, we want it to be an incredible year and hope to see the community come out and help us kick it off,” Ferguson said.

Relay for Life events are community-based and teams or individuals involved camp out where the event is taking place. Each team has at least one participant walking or running on the track at all times.

Teams participate in fundraisers in the months before the event, and all funds raised through Relay for Life events support the American Cancer Society’s mission.

This year’s Lawrence County Relay for Life event will be from noon until midnight Saturday, May 16 at the South Point High School track.

“We changed the location to have it somewhere that is more centralized,” Ferguson said.

The OUS Proctorville Center is located at 111 Private Drive.
