Member of Lawrence Lodge #198 Free and Accepted Masons Robert Melvin, 90, was recently recognized by the Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio for being a 65 year member.

“Anytime there is a 50 plus year member, they receive a certificate from the Grand Lodge of Ohio,” Dwayne Hall, secretary of Lawrence Lodge #198, said. “We have a lot of 50 year members, but getting a 65 year membership certificate is very unique. It does not happen very often.”

Melvin is a former Master of Lawrence Lodge #198 Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio, a former High Priest of Lagrange Chapter #68 Royal Arch Masons, a former Illustrious Master of Ohio Council #92 Royal and Select Masons of Ohio, a former Commander of Ironton Commandery #45 Knights Templar and is currently a Knight of the York Cross of Honor with Ohio with Ohio Priory #18 as well as a member of the Lawrence County York Right Association.

“It was really a great surprise and a happy surprise. I didn’t even know they gave 65 year awards,” Melvin said. “I really enjoy the lodge. I was a licensed engineer, and when I retired at 53, I was able to go through all the chairs. I would recommend the Masonic Lodge to anyone, especially if they’re Christian. It’s really been great.”
