The structure on the former Ironton Iron site is close to being completely torn down and executive director of the Lawrence Economic Development Corporation (LEDC), Dr. Bill Dingus, said the work should be completed by the end of the week.

“The brownfield work is already done on it and we determined that the shell of the building is going to be torn down,” Dingus said. “It was determined that we couldn’t find anyone interested in the building.”

Dingus said selling the land to a business that will create jobs is being examined although there are currently no interests in it yet.

If the land is not sold to create more jobs, the land will be developed by the LEDC, Dingus said.
