Fun day set for weekend
ELIZABETH TOWNSHIP — The Elizabeth Township Volunteer Fire Department will host the township’s third annual Community Fun Day at St. Mary Catholic Churchat noon on Saturday.
Elizabeth Township Fire Chief Jerry Massie said the event started three years ago during the department’s 50th anniversary celebration and it was decided to have a community event every year following.
Live music will be performed by local country artist Brandon Whitt as well as inflatables, mini train rides, a firefighter competition with a trophy for the winning department, face painting, fire trucks, ambulances and an Air Evac helicopter. Food and drinks will also be available.
“Everything we do that day is all free to the community,” Massie said. “The taxpayers don’t have to spend any money to have this. All the money is raised through fundraisers and donations.”
To kick the day off, a parade of emergency vehicles will start at 11 a.m. from Rock Hill Elementary School and will go down County Road 26 until it reaches St. Mary’s.
“It’s exciting for us because we’re able to give back to the community for them spending their tax dollars on us,” Massie said. “We’re thankful for them and we’re happy to give back.”
