A few changes have been made to this year’s Rally on the River Parade of Heroes.

Originally scheduled to take off from the car show at Ironton Hills Plaza at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, the parade is now going to make its start from the Holiday Inn Express and Suites on Saturday at the same time.

Jane Griffith of the Friends of Ironton said the parade will proceed down Seventh Street out to Ninth Street and to the cemetery.

“We will visit the Civil War cemetery, go to Soldiers Plot after that and make a stop at Patriot’s Path where a wreath will be placed and we’ll have a prayer,” Griffith said. “We will exit out of the back side and take the Coal Grove exit.”

Coal Grove police will have the exit blocked off in order to let the parade proceed. The parade will go down Third Street and head back to the Rally, where it will end at the main stage at 6 p.m. for a military tribute.

American Legion Post 433 of Ironton is going to lead the parade and the commander will place the wreath.

Griffith said next year people will be asked if they are veterans and if they want to take part in the parade.

“The Friends of Ironton have always been good supporters of the military and VFWs,” Griffith said.
