As the Rally on the River has come to an end and Second Street is back to normal, the Friends of Ironton call this year’s event a success.
“Everyone I’ve talked to has been pleased with the rally and the results,” Suzie Hamlin of the Friends of Ironton said. “I talked to several vendors, and as far as I know, there weren’t any unhappy vendors. They were very pleased with their sales.”
Hamlin also said she received a lot of good feedback about the entertainment as well as the battle of the bands winners getting to perform on the main stage.
“The rally was close to what we were expecting,” Hamlin said. “Some people didn’t care for it, but overall from our perspective, everyone was pleased.”
Helping set up and clean up the event were residents of the STAR Community Justice Center.
“It’s a phenomenal resource because we need to get the work done and they love to get out of there,” Billy Bruce, program director at STAR, said. “They were there all day Wednesday, six hours on Thursday and cleaned up the whole day Sunday. They do an awesome job.”
Bruce added that STAR residents clean up the riverbank and the U.S. 52 entrance ramp every weekend and have assisted with the rally for the past year and a half.
