PROCTORVILLE — September is National Recovery Month and Spectrum Outreach Services is hosting candlelight vigils in honor of those struggling with addiction beginning in Proctorville tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Proctorville Park.
“Our plan is to go to four parks,” Kathy Ross, of Spectrum Outreach Services, said. “We’ll have a blank banner to start and take it to each park. We’re hoping for people to bring photos of people who have lost their lives to addictions or are still struggling.”
Luminary bags and candles will be available at each location and it is encouraged to come a few minutes early if you want to decorate your bag.
“This is our first attempt at a candlelight vigil,” Ross said. “We wanted to help with those who have lost loved ones to addictions or still know people who struggle.”
Ross also said that the group wanted to do something a little different from surrounding counties because September is National Recovery Month and that they wanted to shed light on the issue in Lawrence County.
The other vigils will be Wednesday, Sept. 16 at the Chesapeake Triangle, Wednesday, Sept. 23 at Paul Porter Park in Coal Grove and Wednesday, Sept. 30 at the South Point Park.
