HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –– Two Huntington men spent the better part of their Friday walking from Huntington to Portsmouth carrying crosses.

Norman Armstrong and Willie Phillips said they were doing this because they love Jesus and want to make the church step out and help with some of the problems in the world today, such as addiction.

“We’re simply carrying crosses to say it’s time for the church to step out of the church house and get busy with things that people get enticed with,” Armstrong said.

Armstrong said the men go to church, but do not necessarily belong to a certain one.

“We love the Lord,” Armstrong added. “Our main focus is not about membership, but about relationship.”
