For the past three years, Harvest for the Hungry food pantry receives a large shipment of potatoes from the Society of St. Andrew.

Thursday morning, an 18-wheeler semi pulled into the pantry with 42,000 pounds of potatoes. Volunteers helped unload the truck and reload onto various trucks going to different food pantries in the area.

“We call different food pantries up and down the river,” Diane Porter, director of Harvest for the Hungry, said. “Half of what we receive today we’ll give away.”

Porter added that she wanted to thank Mayor Rich Blankenship and the city of Ironton for letting the pantry use a forklift to unload and load the potatoes.
