A driver faces multiple charges following a high-speed car chase in Ironton on Tuesday at approximately 8:12 p.m.

“I observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Vine Street ignoring traffic signs,” Sgt. Jamie Pruitt, of the Ironton Police Department, said. “Shortly after I caught up with the vehicle, it turned northbound on South Third. I attempted to do a traffic stop, and the vehicle fled eastbound on Neal Avenue and crashed into a tree in a yard where Neal ends into South Ninth Street.”

Pruitt said there were two occupants in the vehicle, driver, Dean Allen Cooper, 25, and a passenger.

“After the crash, the driver resisted arrest. He was then taken into custody and needed medical treatment for injuries related to the crash,” Pruitt said. “He was released on summons to appear in Ironton Municipal Court on multiple charges.”

Pruitt said Cooper is originally from Kentucky and recently moved to Ironton. The passenger sustained no injuries and has no charges pending.

Cooper faces charges of reckless operation, suspected OVI, fleeing, resisting arrest and failure to control.
