PORTSMOUTH — The game was just like their season. The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers just seemed to get better.

Ironton stared a little slow but continued to heat up in a 78-34 spanking of the Portsmouth Lady Trojans on Monday.

“The first quarter was good but the second quarter was better and then the third quarter was better. We got better as the game went on,” said Ironton coach Doug Graham.

With the win Ironton remained unbeaten overall at 13-0 and in the Ohio Valley Conference at 9-0.

Lexie Barrier scored 20 points — all in the first half — to lead the Lady Fighting Tigers. D’Laynie Keith came off the bench to score 11 points while Cheyenne Scott and Lexie Wise scored 10 each.

Semajah Parker had 10 points for Portsmouth (2-11, 1-8).

Barrier scored 11 points in the first quarter as Ironton took a 14-7 lead.

She came back with 9 more points in the second quarter as Ironton blitzed Portsmouth 23-4 to open up a 37-11 halftime cushion.

Jordan Hannan scored all 6 of her points in the third quarter as Ironton extended its lead to 62-22.

Ironton’s unbeaten record will be tested Thursday when the Lady Tigers play at Fairland. The Lady Dragons only loss this season came at Ironton in their second game.
