PEDRO — Comedian Ron White once joked that his grandfather said of him, “That boy has a lot of quit in him.”

Evidently, White’s grandfather would never make that comment watching the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers after their comeback win over the Piketon Lady Redstreaks on Saturday at the annual Queen of the Hill Classic.

Ironton won its first game of the season 15-1 in five inning over the Manchester Lady Greyhounds.

Against Piketon, the Lady Tigers scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and got a run in the ninth to win 16-15.

“It was an exciting first day of play. I was so proud of the girls, especially in the second game against Piketon. We rallied from behind and never stopped fighting,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.

Aley Carmon collected four hits as Ironton racked up 17 overall. Kenzie Cremeens added three hits while Carmon drove home a pair of runs.

In the win over Manchester, Brooke Elswick got the win as she struck out three, gave up two hits and did not walk a batter.

Kylie Barcus had three hits and Haylee Stevens had two hits as Ironton got nine as a team. Shay Cox, Ruthie Paholsky and Rylie Vaughn drove in two runs each.

Ironton visits Greenup County, Ky., on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
