CLEVELAND –– On the second day of the Republican National Convention, Donald Trump and Indiana Governor Mike Pence were officially named the Republican presidential and vice presidential nominees after receiving 1,275 delegate votes.

The roll call vote began just before 6 p.m. when each of the delegations voted in alphabetical order.

The delegations of Alaska, the American Samoa Islands, Arizona, California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Guam, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, the Northern Mariana Islands, South Carolina, Utah, Washington and West Virginia gave Trump a clean sweep of votes. Delegates of Alaska and the District of Columbia were not all originally set on Trump. However, due to state party rules, all delegates are bound to the nominee if only one candidate is placed, resulting in those votes going to the lone remaining candidate.

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, of Texas, came in second place with a total of 475 delegate votes and third place was Ohio Gov. John Kasich with 120 delegate votes, including a clean sweep for Ohio with all 66 delegates supporting their home governor. U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, of Florida, finished third with 114 delegate votes followed by retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson with seven, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush with three and U.S. Sen. Rand Paul with two.

When Pennsylvania was up to vote, they differed back to New York, who originally passed, allowing Trump’s son and New York delegate, Donald Trump Jr., to put Trump over the required delegate votes for the nomination resulting in loud cheers and celebration inside the convention hall at Quicken Loans Arena.
