Going deep.
No, this isn’t baseball season but the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers were hitting deep shots as they made eight 3-point goals in a 61-34 win over the Gallipolis Blue Angels in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
Lexie Arden led Ironton with a game-high 20 points that including a pair of 3-pointers. Lexi Wise scored 16 points and she hit two 3-pointers as well while Riley Schreck was the mad bomber by hitting four 3-pointers as she scored 14 points.
Ironton (12-4, 7-3) raced to a 19-6 first quarter lead as Wise scored six points, Arden hit a 3-pointer and scored five points and Schreck added a 3-pointer.
Schreck drained three trifectas in the second quarter while Arden and Wise each hit a 3-pointer and scored five points apiece and the lead ballooned to 42-12 at the break.
Arden and Wise combined for 11 points in the third quarter as the Lady Tigers extended their lead to 55-23.
Maddy Petro scored all seven of her points in the quarter for Gallipolis.
Ironton coach Doug Graham emptied the bench in the fourth quarter and Gallipolis outscored the Lady Tigers 11-6 as Rylee Sipple scored six points and Alex Barnes four.
Barnes scored 11 points and Sipple 10 to lead the Blue Angels.
Ironton hosts Chesapeake next Monday while Gallipolis is at Coal Grove on Thursday.
