Ashland artist featured at Ironton library
Ashland, Kentucky artist Rodney Chapman has 25 original pieces on display at the Briggs Lawrence County Public Library in Ironton, showing a wide variety of his skills, including abstract, realistic, impressionistic and collage.
Chapman was born and raised in Ashland and earned his bachelor’s degree in music performance from Morehead State University. Growing up, he said he loved music and art, was always drawing and completed his first oil painting at 10 years old.
Although he has created art all of his life, he has only been a professional artist for the past 18 years.
Some of Chapman’s work includes portrait commissions for company presidents and riverboat commissions for Ashland Oil’s “Paul G. Blazer” and Marathon’s “Marathon” and “Boats-of-the-Line.”
He has also won many ribbons and top awards at shows in Ironton, and Ashland, Morehead and Grayson in Kentucky.
