Woman gets 4 years in school threat case

Drugs, CCS make up majority of docket

A woman who made a shooting threat against Symmes Valley High School on a popular website earlier this year will spend the next four years behind bars after being sentenced Wednesday in the courtroom of Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge Charles Cooper.

On Feb. 21 this year, Breianna N. May, 18, of 14585 State Route 141, Willow Wood, made a threat that a shooting would occur at Symmes Valley High School.

Detectives who were investigating the threat since it was made obtained a search warrant for the social media site and cell phones, where the IP address was then discovered, leading to where the message was generated. When detectives interviewed May, she admitted to posting the message.

May was indicted on charges of inducing panic, a second-degree felony, and making terroristic threats, a third-degree felony.

At her sentencing on Wednesday, Cooper sentenced her to four years in prison with credit for time served.

In other cases:

• Roy G. Berry, 38, of 88 Township Road 1006, Chesapeake, pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony. Cooper sentenced him to four years community-controlled sanctions (CCS) under intensive supervised probation (ISP) with 17 months reserved, and ordered him to complete STAR and pay court costs.

• George D. Bowen, 40, of 1017 McGovney St., Ironton, pleaded guilty to trafficking in drugs (methamphetamine), a fourth-degree felony. Cooper sentenced him to four years CCS under ISP with 17 months reserved, and ordered him to complete STAR.

• Michelle Curry, 37, of 101 Wilson Drive, Coal Grove, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a third-degree felony. Cooper set sentencing for Oct. 3.

• Deborah L. Douglas, 39, of 188 Township Road 1211, South Point, admitted CCS violations. Cooper continued her CCS under ISP with 11 months reserved, and ordered her to complete STAR.

• Ryan K. Edwards, 43, of 91 Township Road 1090, Proctorville, pleaded not guilty to theft of a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony. Cooper continued a $25,000 cash or surety bond from lower court. Pretrial was set for Oct. 3.

• Justin B. Hackworth, 20, of 272 Township Road 615, South Point, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary, both third-degree felonies. In another case, he also admitted CCS violations. Cooper sentenced him to five years in prison. He will be eligible for release after two years if he maintains a good record in prison.

• James Brown, 24, address unknown, admitted CCS violations. Judge Andy Ballard continued his CCS with 800 days reserved, and ordered him to complete the STAR relapse program and added 58 hours to his community service.

• Brian A. Carmon, 34, of 112 Remy St., Coal Grove, pleaded not guilty to possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony. Ballard set bond at $25,000 OR and placed him on GPS monitoring. Pretrial was set for Sept. 26.

• Christopher Conwell, 35, of 92 Township Road 1018, South Point, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. Ballard sentenced him to four years CCS under ISP with 11 months reserved, and ordered him to complete treatment at Riverside Recovery Services and 200 hours community service.

• Shawn Crabtree, 42, of 12361 Kiosville Palestine Road, Mount Sterling, pleaded not guilty to possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony, possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, and possession of drug abuse instruments, a second-degree misdemeanor. Ballard set bond at $15,000 OR, and set pretrial for Oct. 10.

• Holly A. Gonzalez, 41, of 2510 Greenbo Drive, Flatwoods, Kentucky, pleaded not guilty to unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a fifth-degree felony. Ballard set bond at $25,000 OR and placed her on GPS monitoring. Pretrial was set for Sept. 19.

• Kayla Harris, age unknown, of 40 Township Road 1293, Proctorville, pleaded not guilty to theft from the elderly, a fifth-degree felony. Ballard set bond at $15,000 OR, and set pretrial for Oct. 3.

• Evan Henry, 38, of 307 Township Road 169, Pedro, denied CCS violations. Ballard placed him on GPS monitoring until CCS trial, which was set for Sept. 19.

• T.J. Jenkins, 34, of 195 Township Road 1368, Proctorville, pleaded not guilty to breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony. Ballard set bond at $1,500 cash or surety and $15,000 OR. Pretrial was set for Sept. 26.

• Shane Jenkins, 28, of 360 Township Road 111, Ironton, previously pleaded not guilty to possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fourth-degree felony, in one case, and receiving stolen property, also a fourth-degree felony, in another case. Another pretrial for both cases is set for Oct. 24, where a final offer of nine months in prison will be offered. If he rejects the final offer, he is facing a maximum of six years in prison if found guilty at trial, which is set for Dec. 13-14.

• Joshua Kelley, 32, of 122 Center St., Coal Grove, denied CCS violations. Ballard set CCS trial for Sept. 19.

• Scott Lambert, 53, of 108 Higgins St., Coal Grove, previously pleaded not guilty to four counts of actions prohibited without a permit, all first-degree misdemeanors, three counts of illegal transportation of alcohol, also all first-degree misdemeanors, two counts of trafficking in marijuana, one fourth-degree felony and one third-degree felony, and trafficking in drugs (psilocin), a felony of the fourth-degree. Ballard set another pretrial for Oct. 10, where a final offer will be given. If he rejects the state’s final offer, trial is set for Nov. 26.

• Dean Montroso, 47, of 1453 County Road 1, South Point, admitted CCS violations. Ballard continued his CCS with 11 months reserved, and added an additional 25 community service hours, making his total 225 hours to complete.

• Ryan Russell, 44, of 2109 N. Second St., Ironton, pleaded guilty to three counts of trafficking in drugs (methamphetamine), two third-degree felonies and one fourth-degree felony. Ballard sentenced him to three years in prison, and ordered him to pay court costs. He will be eligible for release after one year if he maintains a good record in prison.

• Sean (Shawn) Seagraves, 28, of 900 County Road 15, South Point, previously pleaded not guilty to complicity to burglary, a third-degree felony. He rejected the state’s final offer of three years in prison with the possibility to get out in two. Ballard set trial for Nov. 13.

• Jeffrey Saul, 38, of 2437 S. 10th St., Ironton, denied CCS violations. Ballard set CCS trial for Sept. 19.

• Rodney Spears, 24, of 3361 State Route 243, Ironton, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs (methamphetamine), both third-degree felonies, and trafficking in heroin, a fifth-degree felony. Ballard set sentencing for Sept. 19, and set bond at $25,000 OR and placed him on GPS monitoring until sentencing.

• Gary Stephens, 50, of 461 Township Road 1055, Proctorville, pleaded not guilty to burglary, a second-degree felony. A pretrial is set for Sept. 26, where a final offer will be given. If he reject’s the state’s final offer, Ballard set trial for Oct. 15-16.
