Business hosting Trunk or Treat tonight

COAL GROVE— A new business in Coal Grove offers a place for children and adults alike to have a good time through video games, escape rooms and more.

Gr8r Gaming opened for business toward the end of September with the goal to provide a fun, safe place for people to enjoy gaming and other activities.

“We have a gaming lounge, an escape room and a party area, and we also have weekly game tournaments,” Maggie Chaffin, one of the co-owners, said.

The gaming lounge has eight Xbox Ones and eight Play Station 4s, and the escape room currently has a pirate theme.

“Me and my husband, and my brother and his girlfriend, went to Cincinnati once and fell in love with an escape room that was there,” Chaffin said. “And although there are a few more in this area now, we wanted to bring something like that here to Coal Grove.”

Both Coal Grove natives and graduates of Dawson-Bryant, Chaffin and her brother, Ryan Young, own the business, which originally was going to just be two mobile units, making it able to travel to places and different events.

“We started with the idea to make it mobile, being able to take video gaming and escape rooms out to places,” Young said. “And we ordered the trailers and the day after we got them, this building became available, which we couldn’t pass up. So we put the trailers on hold to work on the building, but we’ll have the trailers in use very soon.”

One of the trailers will be used for gaming, while the other will be an escape room.

“And when we get those going, people will be able to play inside of the trailer, but we’ll also have the capability to take what we have inside as well.”

Young added that the hope is to provide the trailers for activities at schools, business functions, outdoor concerts, fairs and festivals, and more.

Gr8r Gaming is able to host birthday parties, business meetings and get-togethers in its space to do so, with Chaffin saying that tables and chairs can be arranged to accommodate what’s needed. The TV screens in the area can also show PowerPoint presentations.

“And escape rooms are really good for team building,” Chaffin said. “We can do a lot of things here.”

Prices for birthday parties begin at $200, and prices for the gaming lounge are $5 per hour or $20 for the day.

In addition, the business is hosting a free Trunk or Treat event for the community from 6-7:30 p.m. tonight.

Gr8r Gaming is located at 317 Marion Pike in Coal Grove. For more information, call 740-237-4732 or visit www.Gr8rGaming.com or www.facebook.com/gr8rgaming.
