WILLOW WOOD — Sometimes you don’t mind working overtime because the pay is good.
The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings had to play an overtime game on Monday but they didn’t mind after getting a 67-63 win over the Western Lady Indians in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
The game was tied at 58 after regulation. Jenna Malone then took over in overtime with seven points including a 3-pointer while Rachel Hayes added a basket and the Lady Vikings outscored Western 9-5.
Malone finished the game with 21 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots. Hayes got 16 points along with five assists and five steals as the Lady Vikings remained unbeaten (3-0, 2-0). Haley Littlejohn also had 10 rebounds.
Sylvia Evans scored 22 points, Haley Whitt 18 and Alyssa Marhoover 10 for Western.
The game was tied at 14 after the first quarter but Western took a 30-28 halftime lead as Marhoover and Whitt combined for 11 points in the second quarter.
Hayes scored seven points as the Lady Vikings kept pace.
Evans hit a 3-pointer and scored eight points in the third quarter and Western nudged its way to a 41-35 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Malone scored 10 points, Hayes hit a 3-pointer and scored seven points while the Lady Vikings converted 8-of-18 free throws in the quarter.
The Lady Indians were 7-of-11 at the line in the quarter and just 16-of-40 for the game.
But Malone took over in overtime as the Lady Vikings got the win.
Symmes Valley visits Portsmouth Notre Dame on Thursday.
