Lady Dragons keep pace in OVC race

PEDRO — The Fairland Lady Dragons made sure they kept pace in the Ohio Valley Conference race.
Fairland built a big first half lead and went on to beat the Rock Hill Redwomen 64-33 on Thursday.
The Lady Dragons are now 5-1 in the OVC and tied with South Point for second place, one-half game behind Coal Grove who beat the Lady Pointers 39-36.
The win was the nine straight for Fairland after losing their first two games of the season.
Rock Hill was down 4-3 after a basket by Makenzie Hanshaw at the 5:34 mark of the first quarter. Fairland then took over and outscored the Redwomen 15-4 the rest of the quarter to lead 19-7.
Emma Marshall hit a 3-pointer, Brittany Thompson made a basket and Kelsie Warnock sank two free throws and hit a trey to start the second quarter and Fairland now led 29-7.
The Lady Dragons were up 34-7 when Kelsey Olderham scored with 2:59 left in the half to end the run and make it a 34-9 game.
Jenna Stone’s 3-pointer with 50 seconds on the clock gave Fairland a 38-15 cushion.
Rock Hill did outscore Fairland 15-13 in the third quarter including a basket by Savannah McGraw at the buzzer but the Redwomen still trailed 51-30.
Allie Marshall had nine points, 15 rebounds, three assists, four steals and five blocked shots to lead the Lady Dragons.
Harley Lyons led all scorers with 20 points while Warnock finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and three steals.
Rock Hill (2-8, 0-7) was led by Ryleigh Morris with eight points, five rebounds and two assists. Hanshaw had six points and Kylee Howard five rebounds.
On Monday, Rock Hill visits Oak Hill and Fairland host South Point.
