An Ironton man who was arrested on Christmas Day for the alleged rape of a girl under 18 was appointed a new attorney in the courtroom of Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge Christen Finley on Wednesday, after he couldn’t retain the attorney that he had hired.

Clarence Felty, 44, of 160 Woodlawn Drive, Ironton, had previously pleaded not guilty to rape, a first-degree felony. He was not able to retain his hired lawyer and Finley appointed attorney Roger Smith to represent him. Pretrial was set for March 13.
