Pitching, defense trigger Bobcats’ win
BEAVER — Pitching and defense. Pitching and defense. Every game it seems to be pitching and defense for the Green Bobcats.
The Bobcats used the shutout pitching of Tayte Carver to beat the Eastern Eagles 11-0 in a six-inning Southern Ohio Conference game on Monday.
Green (16-1, 8-0) got their 11th shutout of the season including all league games and the defense had its fifth straight game without an error.
Carver allowed just three hits, struck eight and walked three to get the win.
“Any time your go on the road and you pitch and you play defense, you’ve got a chance to win. Tayte pitched well and we played good defense. Eli Webb had a big game at the plate and Tayte helped himself,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.
Not only did Green get pitching and defense, but they collected 12 hits as well.
Eli Webb was 3-4 with two runs batted in, Carver was 2-4 with a double and Bryce Ponn was 2-2.
The Bobcats jumped in front 3-0 in the first inning.
Webb singled, stole second, Tanner Kimbler was safe on an error, Carver hit into a force play but Ponn had an RBI single.
Ponn stole second and Levi Singleton had a two-run single.
Three more runs scored in the second.
Trevor Darnell singled, stole second and Webb drew a walk. The two pulled off a double steal and Carver unloaded a two-run double. Ponn capped the rally with an RBI single.
A run scored in the fifth when Darnell walked and Wiley Sanders and Webb singled.
The final four runs scored in the sixth to create the run rule.
Carver opened the inning with a single, Ponn walked and Mason Barber singled in a run.
The runners advanced on a wild pitch and a throwing error into left field scored both runners.
Caden Brammer then singled, Darnell walked and Webb had his second RBI single.
