Dragons escape Trojans upset bid in OT

PROCTORVILLE — Whew!
The Fairland Dragons were seeing their lock on first place evaporating at the hands of the Portsmouth Trojans.
But Aiden Porter hit a 3-pointer to tie the game with 25 seconds left and send the game into overtime and then the Dragons outscored the Trojans 13-11 in overtime to escape with a 75-73 Ohio Valley Conference win on Friday.
Fairland is now 15-1 overall and 10-0 atop the league. Portsmouth fell to 6-10 and 3-7.
In overtime Porter had 7 more points, Gavin Hunt 4 points and Clayton Tomas and Jordan Williams each went 1-for-1 at the line.
Miles Shipp scored 5 points including 3-of-4 at the line and Matthew Fraulini had 4 points for the Trojans.
Porter hit 7-of-18 shots from behind the arc and led Fairland with a career-high 31 points. Thomas was 5-of-15 from the 3-point line and scored 19 points while Jacob Polcyn added 11 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists.
Thomas also had 8 rebounds and Porter 3 steals.
Fraulini scored 26 points to lead the Trojans. Jesse Dixon hit four 3-pointers and scored 18 points while Shipp got 15 points.
Porter hit four 3-pointers as Fairland went up 19-10 in the first quarter.
Thomas and Zander Schmidt each hit 3-pointers in the second quarter and Fairland led 35-27 at the half.
Amare Johnson, Donovan Carr and Dixon all hit 3-pointers in the quarter for the Trojans.
Fairland made 10 3-poimters in the first half and took a 35-27 lead.
Thomas had two 3-pointers and was 3-of-3 at the line while Polcyn hit a 3-pointer and had 5 points and Fairland was up 51-44 after three quarters.
Dixon had a 3-poiner and scored 7 points in the quarter while Fraulini knocked down a pair of triples.
In the fourth quarter, Dixon had two more 3-pointers and scored 8 points while Fraulini added 7 points to rally the Trojans.
Fairland had 11 points in the quarter with Porter hitting three 3-pointers.
On Tuesday, Fairland goes to Gallipolis and Portsmouth host Rock Hill.
