SOUTH POINT — Jack Leith scored the 1,000th point of his career, it just seemed like he scored all of his 1,000 points in Tuesday’s game to the South Point Pointers.
Leith scored 24 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocked shots as the Symmes Valley Vikings beat the Pointers 66-61 in a non-league game.
The Vikings (14-5) also got 18 points and 12 rebounds from Luke Leith while Drew Scherer scored 15 points along with 6 rebounds.
South Point (13-8) was led by Chance Gunther with 22 points with Mason Kazee scoring 13 including three 3-pointers and Nakyan Turner added 10.
Both Jack and Luke Leith had 6 points in the first quarter and Caden Brammer hit a 3-pointer as the Vikings took a 19-13 lead.
Gunther scored 8 points and Kazee had a 3-pointer and 5 points to account for the Pointers’ scoring.
The Leith brothers combined for 10 points in the second quarter as the Vikings went up 35-28 at the half.
Brody Blackwell and Kazee both hit 3-pointers and scored 5 points for South Point.
Each team scored 13 points in the third quarter as the Vikings held onto a 48-41 lead.
Jack Leith had 5 points while Brady Shepherd and Luke Leith scored 4 points each.
Turner scored 8 points including 6-of-6 free throws and Gunther hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points for South Point
In the fourth quarter, Scherer and Jack Leith scored 7 points and the Vikings were 10-of-19 from the foul line. Scherer made 5-of-7 free throws and Luke Leith 4-of-6.
Leith made a putback with 1:37 to play to give him his milestone.
Gunther hit a triple and scored 7 points and Blackwell added a trifecta but the Pointers’ comeback hopes came up short.
