Man hospitalized after accident on Saturday

IRONTON — An Ironton man remains in fair condition after a car/motorcycle collision Saturday night.

The motorcyclist, Jerry Klaiber, 34, of Haverhill-Ohio Furnace Road taken by helicopter to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.

Ironton Police Chief Jim Carey said the driver of the car involved in the accident, Lori L. Myers, 28, of Oak City, N.C. initially left the scene of the accident but later turned herself in to authorities. She was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and probation violation and taken to jail.

Carey said when the accident occurred, Klaiber was southbound on South Third Street and Meyers was northbound; she attempted to turn onto Ellison Avenue and struck Klaiber’s bike.

Meanwhile, in another accident Sunday, a Pedro man was injured when he apparently fell asleep while driving on South Fifth Street near Sharon Baptist Church. Gerald Rowe, 52, of 638 Township Road 155E was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington W.Va. Carey said Rowe struck a parked car and flipped his vehicle.
