LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP — Those who travel on County Road 6 these days will find it a cleaner place, thanks to the hard work of one area church.

Bald Knob United Brethren Church has joined the Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste Management District’s Adopt a Litter Site program and has agreed to keep clean the roughly four-mile section of roadway between State Route 217 and State Route 141. The first cleanup event was Sept. 20.

“We thought we needed to do something for the community,” Bald Knob Deacon Gerald Ferguson explained. “It blesses us and the neighbors, too. Some of them saw us out there Saturday and stopped and thanked us for it.”

The inaugural trash pickup was fruitful indeed: a dozen congregation members collected 105 bags of trash. Ferguson said he and his wife, Amy, walk that roadway in the evenings and have collected a bag of trash since then.
