An Ironton man admitted to stealing jewelry from his own mother, including her wedding band and high school class ring, Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

Emory Markel Jr., 31, of 624 ½ Lawrence St., pleaded guilty to fifth-degree theft. Markel’s attorney, Warren Morford, said his actions were “fueled by addiction to pain pills.”

Judge Charles Cooper sentenced Markel to four years community controlled sanctions with intensive supervised probation and ordered him to successfully complete the STAR Community Justice program.

Edward Holsinger, 41, of 1902 South Second St., Ironton, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for three counts of fourth-degree aggravated trafficking in drugs, each to be served concurrently. Cooper also ordered Holsinger to pay a $2,500 fine for each count.

Michael White, 29, of 545 County Road 1, South Point, entered a denial plea for a CCS violation. Cooper scheduled a trial for Nov. 23.

James Curry, 42, of 2134 State Route 217, Kitts Hill, pleaded guilty to third and fourth degree counts of trafficking in drugs. Cooper continued Curry’s bond and set sentencing for Nov. 30.

Shalena Parsons, 31, of 784 State Route 411, Proctorville, pleaded guilty on a bill of information to two counts of fifth-degree forgery and one count of third-degree tampering with evidence.

Cooper scheduled sentencing for Jan. 4 and set a $25,000 OR bond.
