UNION TOWNSHIP — Chesapeake-Union Volunteer Fire Chief Ed Webb said he and his firefighters had been saying recently things had been very quiet lately with no fire calls, and they certainly weren’t complaining.

That changed Tuesday afternoon when a house on County Road 3 in Union Township caught fire, injuring the occupant. Webb said the man was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va., for treatment of severe burns.

“When we got there it was fully involved,” Webb said. “It was such an old house, though, it was just dried out and the fire burned through the roof.”

Webb said the fire was fought with tankers because the house was in an area with no fire hydrants.

Webb said the cause of the fire is unknown at this time; the incident remains under investigation.

The Proctorville Volunteer Fire Department assisted with the fire.

The time of the call was 5:19 p.m.

The name of the victim and his condition was not available as of press time.
