The old Ro-Na Theater will open its doors tonight to the strange, the bizarre and perhaps even the unexpected when area organizations team up to host a midnight screening of the cult classic movie, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

The entertainment begins at 11:30 p.m. with a preshow that will include a costume contest with prizes. The movie will begin at midnight. Tickets to the show are $5 (cash only at the door). The box office and theater will open at 10:30 p.m. for ticket presales and a dance party.

The event is sponsored by Richard A. Fisher Productions with cooperation from The Friends of Ironton and DownHome Decadence Productions, an internationally recognized Rocky Horror Picture Show shadow cast, who successfully produced a “shadow cast” performance of the movie every week for nearly three years at the now defunct Downtown Discount Cinema Theater in Huntington, W.Va.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show has been viewed in movie theaters on at least a weekly basis since it debuted on the big screen Sept. 23, 1975. Attending midnight screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show has become a rite of passage for some people for 35 years and older.

The Ro-Na Theater is at 312 S. Third St. in Ironton.
