Gus Macker deadline extended

IRONTON — Registration for the 2012 Ironton Gus Macker event has extended its deadline until midnight, Sunday, May 6. The registration is online only.

The event committee agreed upon the extension with the Macker staff.

 

Families Anonymous to have guest speaker

COAL GROVE— The support group Families Anonymous will have Robin Looney, of the Counseling Center in Portsmouth, as its guest speaker at its meeting tonight.

The group meets at 8 p.m. each Wednesday at the Memorial United Methodist Church in Coal Grove. The Rev. Brad Jenkins, pastor of the church, said the group is for any family member or friend of someone who is battling any kind of addiction. Families Anonymous has been meeting since March.

 

Huntington company expands, adds 30 jobs

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Rubberlite Inc. has completed a $5.7 million expansion and is hiring 30 new employees in Huntington.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin joined Rubberlite employes and company founder and CEO Allen Mayo for a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday.

The expansion includes a new 52,000-square-foot building and upgrades to the manufacturing process and equipment. The company manufactures engineered rubber and plastic foams that supply a variety of industries, including automotive, electronic, appliance, aerospace, medical, footwear, sporting goods, military and equestrian.

 

Desco has 48th annual meeting

PORTSMOUTH — Desco Federal Credit Union would like to thank all who attended the 48th Annual Meeting on April 24 that was at the American Legion Post in Portsmouth. By all accounts the meeting, with approximately 300 attendees, was a success.

Richard Bussa, Chairman, opened the meeting and Lee Powell, CEO, shared the news that while headlines may indicate the difficulty the average person can have obtaining a loan, Desco members were able to borrow over $56 million in loans due to the downward move of interest rates to purchase or refinance their residences. Business owners also took advantage of the low rates and financed over $8 million with Desco.

Judy Hunt, Steve Collins and George Lawson were re-elected for three-year terms to the board of directors.

Credit Union officers were elected for the coming year at an organizational meeting. Those elected were, Richard Bussa, chairman; George O’Neal, vice chairman; Max Behrer, Treasurer and Judy Hunt, secretary. Others directors include Claude Duckworth, George Lawson, Steve Collins, John Queen and Dail Irwin.

The supervisory committee is comprised of D. R. Gossett, chairman; Kim Cutlip and Carolyn Powell.
