Ham license exams Saturday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Exams for those who wish a new or upgraded amateur radio “ham” license form the FCC will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Museum of Radio and Technology in Huntington.

The exams are sponsored by the Tri-State Amateur Radio Association. Any qualified candidate may be tested.

The museum is at 1640 Florence Ave., off Harvey Road, on the west side of Huntington. All parts for the amateur radio license classes will be offered. Each test will have a fee of $15.

Two forms of accepted identification are required, including a picture I.D.

Also applicants must bring the original and copy of any ham radio license currently held and any Certificate of Successful Completion of Examination that is held.

Journalism expo to feature pros

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall University’s journalism school will host a career and internship expo Thursday.

The event is from 2 to 4 p.m. in the atrium near the Birke Art Gallery on the first floor of Smith Hall.

About 20 businesses, including local media, advertising agencies, public relations firms and marketing departments from various businesses will offer their expertise.

From 1 to 2 p.m. that day there will be media and public relations panels in Rooms 335 and 336 at Smith Hall.

Panelists include Tim Irr from WSAZ-TV and Thomas White, owner of Ignite Studios.

Decorate a flower pot at BCPL

SUMMIT, Ky. — Help welcome spring by decorating a flower pot at an April 12 program at the Summit branch of Boyd County Public Library.

The Monday night program, which starts at 6 p.m., is part of the weekly “Piece-ing it Together” craft club. Once a month, the group makes a special take-home craft, and the library supplies the materials.

The Summit branch is located at 1016 Summit Road, across from Boyd County Middle School. New members are always welcome at the craft club meetings.

In May, the take-home craft will be Assisi embroidery, with special help from the Tri-Area Needle Arts group.
