Lady Hornets get pair of wins

COAL GROVE — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets have been busy. They’ve also been winning.

After finishing second in the Federal Hocking Tournament on Saturday, the Lady Hornets beat St. Joseph on Monday and then knocked of the Fairland Lady Dragons in straights sets on Tuesday 25-18, 25-22 and 25-17 in an Ohio Valley Conference match.

“My girls have been playing some good volleyball lately,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Trish Damron. “We are about to start round tow of the Ohio Valley Conference and I need to make sure my players don’t let up.”

In the win over Fairland, Cami Hillier had 15 points and an amazing 38 assists.

“Cami is truly one of the best setters Lawrence County has ever seen. She will get to a ball no matter where it is on the floor,” said Holmes.

Ashley Adkins had 11 points and 8 kills, Bailey Harrison 12 kills, Cheyenne Bellomy 10 kills and Leslie Mulkey 7 kills in the Lady Hornets’ win.

Coal Grove begins the second round of the OVC schedule at Chesapeake on Thursday.
