KDMC mobile mammography unit to visit 2 locations

ASHLAND, Ky. — The American Cancer Society recommends that women age 40 and older have a screening mammogram each year. Screening mammograms help detect breast cancer early, when it is most treatable.

To help women meet this goal, King’s Daughters Mobile Mammography Unit travels throughout the region performing testing. The mobile mammography unit will visit two locations in Lawrence County in October:

• Proctorville – King’s Daughters Medical Specialties, 6276 State Route 7, beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8

• Ironton – King’s Daughters Family Care Center, 912 Park Ave., beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17

Screening mammograms do not require a physician order, but an appointment is necessary. To schedule, please call King’s Daughters Centralized Scheduling department at (606) 408-2742 or toll free 1-877-304-1935.

All tests are performed by specially trained mammography technologists using digital equipment, which results in less radiation exposure.

Many insurance companies cover the entire cost of mammography; check with your insurance provider. King’s Daughters provides a limited number of free mammograms to uninsured/underinsured women through grant funding provided by the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Cabell Huntington Hospital was recognized by The Joint Commission for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain medical conditions.

Cabell Huntington Hospital is one of 620 hospitals in the U.S. earning the distinction of Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. Cabell Huntington was recognized for its achievements in heart attack care, heart failure care, pneumonia care and surgical care. The ratings are based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2011 calendar year.
