Giving young people a chance to play a team sport outside a school environment or to play in a league throughout the year are the goals of the extra play basketball league to start in December at First Baptist Church of Ironton.

“It is for kids who are in grade school, middle school and high school who want to play extra games,” Mark Cisco, director of Key Player Basketball, said.

On Saturday starting at 2 p.m. players can register for their age group at the church’s Faith and Fitness Center.

“Some kids don’t get to play at school and some kids want to play more than what their home league has,” Cisco said.

The basketball league is open to both boys and girls starting with 5-year-olds and going through high school.

The first games will be on Saturday, Dec. 1, at the center with the winter quarter going through to the end of January. There will also be a spring, summer and fall quarters.

“Some kids who can’t play in the winter, can play in the spring,” Cisco said. “And some go all year-long.”
