Elisabeth von Trapp carries on family legacy at Shawnee State University

PORTSMOUTH — The Southern Ohio Performing Arts Association and Shawnee State University present the Empire Brass and Elisabeth von Trapp as they bring “The Sound of Christmas” to the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7. The concert is sponsored by the Martings Foundation and Innovative Solutions Unlimited Inc. (inSolves).

Born and raised in Vermont, von Trapp is the granddaughter of the legendary Maria and Baron Von Trapp, whose story inspired the beloved movie classic, “The Sound of Music.”

Von Trapp has been singing professionally since childhood carrying on her family tradition. She has performed throughout the world from European cathedrals to Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center.

Critics have called her voice “hauntingly clear,” “joyfully expressive” and “simply beautiful.” Her concert repertoire ranges from Bach to Broadway and Schubert to Sting.

“I am excited to join the five members of the Empire Brass,” von Trapp said. “They are renowned for their brilliant virtuosity and diverse repertoire.”
