COAL GROVE — For seniors Chelsea Delong and Kelli McMackin, it was a chance to finish on an up note.

And what a note it was.

The senior duo combined for 24 points as nine different players scored in the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 62-16 win over the Rock Hill Redwomen Thursday.

“It’s good to end on a positive note,” said Coal Grove coach Nick Miller.

“It gave the seniors a chance to play their last home game and be recognized for their accomplishments this year and in their careers.”

McMackin scored 15 points — she had three 3-pointers — and Delong 9 as Coal Grove finished 8-13 and 4-6 in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Taylor Fleming led Coal Grove with 16 points and Ashley Goad scored 11.

“Our kids were excited to play. We had some young kids who stepped up for us. The girls were disappointed they didn’t win a close game on Saturday. Our young kids got a lot of experience this year,” said Miller.

Fleming had 9 points including a pair of 3-pointers and Goad 5 points in the first quarter as Coal Grove stormed out to a 23-7 lead to take control of the game.

The Lady Hornets scored just 8 points in the second quarter but the defense held the Redwomen to only a basket and it was 31-9 at the half.

McMackin scored 7 points and Delong 4 in the third quarter as Coal Grove pulled away to a 48-12 lead.

Seven different players scored in the fourth quarter as Coal Grove coasted to the win.
