SOUTH POINT — Alex Bare did something he’s never done so that the Coal Grove Hornets could keep doing something they’ve gotten used to doing.

Bare scored a career-high 30 points to help the Hornets continue their winning ways in a 64-55 win over the South Point Pointers Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

While Bare was scoring a career high, teammate Conor Markins pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds. Markins also scored 10 points — all from the foul line as he converted 10 of 14 attempts including nine points in the second half.

Brandon Adkins had 18 points for the Hornets (8-2, 3-1).

South Point (6-6, 1-3) had two players in double figures. Payne Meadows scored 18 points and Brandon Barnes scored 17.

Kurt Adams scored 6 of his 8 points in the first quarter and Meadows had another 6 points as South Point took a 16-14 lead. Bare had 11 of Coal Grove’s total.

Adkins got 9 points in the second quarter to match South Point’s total as Coal Grove rallied to take a 29-25 lead at the half.

Each team scored 14 points in the third quarter and it was 43-39. Meadows scored 8 points in the quarter.

Adkins drained a 3-pointer with 1:40 to play the put the Hornets up 55-51. Markins foul shooting helped stop South Point’s comeback hopes as Barnes scored 10 points in the fourth quarter.
