Amos Wilson

Rev. Amos Bernard Wilson, 90, of Scottown, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Arbors Nursing Home in Gallipolis. The Lawrence County native was born Nov. 4, 1922, son of the late George and Mary Brown Wilson.

Amos was a retired dozer operator for the Lawrence County Engineer. He was an ordained minister and the pastor of the Okey Chapel Church in Scottown. He enjoyed farming.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Kingery Wilson; six brothers, Orland Wilson, Ralph Wilson, Fred Wilson, Edgar Wilson, Stewart Wilson and Stacy Wilson and four sisters, Garnet Callicoat, Dorothy Wilson, Irene Hayes and an infant sister.

Amos is survived by sons Roger Wilson (Karen) of Columbus, Keith Wilson (Sandra) of Scottown, Michael Wilson (Tammy) of Scottown, David Wilson of Scottown and Leland Wilson (Donna) of Scottown; daughters Karen Mannon (Pearlie) of Scottown and Lisa Means (Michael) of Leon, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Okey Chapel Church in Scottown with Pastor Darrell Fowler and Rick Riggle officiating. Burial will follow in Brethern Cemetery. Morris Horn

Morris E. Horn, 84, of Wheelersburg passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at his residence. The Piketon native was born July 19, 1928, the son of the late William E. and Pearlie Looney Horn. He is survived by Sarah Cremeans Horn of Wheelersburg.

Morris was a graduate of Springfield High School and a U.S. Army WWII veteran. He was a truck driver for 53 years for Ford Brothers, Johnson Horse Transportation and BMI Trucking, retiring in 2008. He was a member of the Sand Hill Christian Baptist Church in Wheelersburg, a member of the Ironton York Rite Bodies, the Masonic Lodge #198 and the Valley of the Cincinnati Scottish Rite.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Horn and Paul Horn and a special brother-in-law, Ronnie Cremeans.

He is survived by daughter Kim Sanders-Ramski (John) of De Pere, Wis.; four sons, Earl Sanders (Dorthy) of Yorktown, Va., Chuck Sanders (Denise) of Franklin Furnace, Chris Horn (Tanya) of Franklin Furnace and William “Bill” Horn of Akron;

two sisters, Betty Locker (Ben) of Springfield and Doris Kennon of Marietta; special friends, Wilford Blizzard (Becky) and Shelby Sloas all of Franklin Furnace; six grandchildren, Zack Sanders, Earl Sanders, Jr., Devon Ramski, William Sanders, who spent lots of time with his granddad, Louci McGrew and Toriana Horn and a great granddaughter, Anna Bell.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Sand Hill Christian Baptist Church in Wheelersburg with Pastor Ronnie Blevins and Tony Mollett officiating. Burial will follow in Junior Furnace Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 5-8 p.m. with the Masonic Scottish Rites at 7 p.m. at the church. Pallbearers will be Chris Horn, John Ramski, William Sanders, D.J. Johnson, Wilford Blizzard and Mike Sloas. Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton is in charge of the arrangements. Gary Adkins

Gary Lowell Adkins, 73, of Benton, Ky., formerly of Ironton, passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at Lourdes Hospital.

He was born May 23, 1939, in Ironton,. He was an avid fisherman and a self-employed contractor.

He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Humphrey and husband Lawrence of Ironton; his grandson, Shane Humphrey; one brother, James E.F. Adkins and wife Connie of Ironton; and one sister, Vickie Jenkins of Haverhill.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Shane Adkins and his parents were Frank Adkins and Grace Tasker Hughes. There will be no funeral service. Filbeck-Cann & King Home and Crematory is handling the arrangements.

 

 

Mulford Meadows Jr.

Mulford Harry “Bud” Meadows Jr., 70, of Huntington, W.Va., died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Meadows.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville by Pastor Duane Smith. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

 

Fred Whitley

Fred Calvin Whitley, 84, of Proctorville, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was the husband of Alice Bone Whitley, who survives.
