Artists wanted for June festival

The main branch of the Briggs Lawrence County Library will house more than books June 1 as the library plays host to the Junefest Arts and Crafts Festival.

The event, sponsored by The Friends of the Library, will take place inside the library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with 14 vendors selling everything from quilts to jewelry. The organization sponsors various fundraisers throughout the year, but this is the first time the group has hosted this type of event, Nancy Norris, event contact, said.

“We have had a good response so far, even with it being a new event,” Norris said. “We have a limited number of spaces available and are seeking a few good artists to fill the last spots.”

The event is not juried and comes with a minimal booth fee of $10, Norris said. She said the booth fee is small compared to most arts and crafts festivals in the area because the main goal is to create an event beneficial to the vendors, which will then make it an event beneficial to the library and the community.

“We look forward to this new experience and hope 10 years down the road we are having the 10th annual Junefest,” Norris said. “We want to create another venue for local artists and crafters to sell their items as well as bring people to the library to see all the wonderful things it has to offer.”

Norris said she hopes the event becomes large enough to expand outside the library into the parking lot, and even get to the point one day where they will have to block off part of the street to fit all the vendors in.

Refreshments will be provided by The Friends of the Library for vendors and those who attend.

Application packets for those wishing to be a vendor at the event are available at the front desk of the library’s main branch. The deadline to submit applications is May 15. Those who cannot make it to the library can call Nancy Norris at 740-237-4492.
