COAL GROVE — Methodical suits Rock Hill coach Mary Jane Harper just fine.

“We’re just taking them one game at a time,” said Harper after the Redwomen beat the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 9-1 on Friday as they improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Sami Nixon pitched a five-hitter, struck out nine and did not walk a batter to get the win. She also went 2-3 as Rock Hill got nine hits.

“We got solid hitting and good pitching. If we keep doing that, we’ll be okay,” said Harper.

Kaelynn Ellis went 2-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Redwomen. Brittany Webb had a triple for Coal Grove.

The Lady Hornets took a 1-0 lead in the first on a hit by Kaitlyn Murphy, a fielder’s choice and an error.

Rock Hill tied the game in the second when Ellis doubled, moved to second on Lindy Simpson’s sacrifice and scored on a wild pitch.

The Redwomen took the lead with two runs in the third.

Brooke Eastham walked, Brooke Hanshaw singled and Ellis singled home Hanshaw and courtesy runner Emmalee Ellis.

Rock Hill pushed across four runs in the fourth to make it 7-1.

Kenzi Harrah walked, Nixon singled, both moved up on a wild pitch and Sami Dillon knocked in a run with a fielder’s choice. Jenna Lane reached on an error for a run and a wild pitch scored the final run.
